Textual Analysis

Visual Codes:
The setting of this scene is a white vault which such be safe and no one can get into it, this is shown by the white walls and the machine at the bottom.
The character is being lowered down upside down on a rope into the vault. He is wearing black which suggests that maybe he is bad or that he is doing something bad. He is wearing glasses so maybe he is old and has bad eye sight but more likely he needs them to zoom his vision when he gets to the machine below. He is also wearing an ear piece which is showing that he is not alone and he has a team to talk to and feed him the information he might need. He is also wearing gloves so his prints will not be left behind, this shows that he is committing a criminal act.
Most of the other people are wearing black and suits.

Technical Codes:
It starts out with a long shot to show the vault and the way they are getting into it, through the vents. Then it goes to a tracking shot to follow the robber through the vent, who is upside down, the tracking shot follows him all the way down through the vault. Then there is a close up of a digital thermometer, to show how hot the vault is and maybe how hot it needs to get in order to brake into it. Then there is a straight mid shot that pans down his partner to show him lowering him into the vault and also showing that he is not alone. Mid shot to show another partner on the computer tracking around the vault so they don't get caught. Then there is a tracking shot of the person walking towards the vault. When the man get closer they pace of the editing speeds up to make the audience tense because there is a possibility of getting caught.
The lighting in the scene is high key lighting while showing the vault and the building but the people who are helping the robbery are in low key lighting to help the audience know that these people are in the dark and are doing a bad thing.

Audio Codes:
There is Diegetic sound where the people are talking and grunting as the man lowers the other one into the vault. There is also the sound of the computer tracking people who work there and the sound of the man moving in his chair. There is the sound of people walking and the man moaning about the pain in his side. The sound of the door moving and the air vent fan blowing.
There is no non-diegetic sound in this scene.

Visual Codes:
These mean are wearing casual clothes which means that they are together on a weekend. They look like they are in their thirties and are in nice clothes and are in a nice room meaning that they are in good well paid job. Through the window you can see that they are in a city and are quite high up showing that they are in an apartment. One man is standing around embarrassed watching another man dance around in front of him and doing it terribly. The man has his arms crossed with his hand to his mouth trying to act cool while all this is going on. Then it cuts to a party and the bad dancer is there with a girl and they are both dressed up nicely which means that they are at an important party. Then the other man try's to teach the bad dancer how to dance and impress the girl, which is just swaying and clicking your finger which you hold at your waist. He thinks this will help to not embarrass himself with the lady.

Technical Codes:
The scene is filmed in high key lighting because the apartment is bright meaning that this is going on in the day time but when it cuts to the man and the woman they are in low key lighting to show that they are at a party at night, also it might show that they are on a date.
First of all in this shot they use mainly mid shots to show the man dancing and the other man judging him, then there is a bird's eye view to show the audience just how bad his dancing is. The use of over the shoulder shots in the scene in good because the audience can see the man dancing along with the embarrassed man reaction to his bad dancing. Then there is a close to show the mans disgust this is shown through had head nod because his hand is covering his face, this is to make the audience laugh. Once the man starts to teach the other one to dance it cuts to a close up of his face and to see his emotion of a cool scrunched up face, another attempt for the audience to laugh.
The camera movement in this scene is pretty straight for most of it but at the end of the sequence there is some low angles to look up at the dancing man, high angles and a pan to follow him as he shuffles across the floor.
At the start of this scene the edits is quite slow to show the men doing the their thing, even when it cuts to the man and the lady the cuts are still slow but then towards the end the edits become faster and goes along with the dance moves that the man is carrying out.

Audio Codes:
There is diegetic sound of them speaking and also this scene is good because the music being played is diegetic because the man is in control of it with a remote control.

Audience Task

Criminal Minds:
The intended audience for this show for adults and mature minds with our isn't afraid of violence and graphic scenes, because this show is about serial killers you see things like slit throats and blood everywhere, this would not be suitable for younger viewers. This show is shown on Sky channels meaning there are other shows that are targeting a similar audience.

This show would come under Entertainment in uses and gratifications because it is so extreme and people would use it to relax and even fill time. I watch this show because I like how they work to find the criminal and it also educates me on who might be out there. Some people might watch this show because someone else told them to and they don't want to be left out so then that would com under Social Integration.

Also the actors and actresses on this show are middle and young adult age and they are all attractive which makes the appeal to the show higher because woman will watch it just for the men in it, like Morgan. They also make the story lines better because then the can add romance in for the girls and heart break for the men, like when Aaron Hotchner lost his wife and son because he was too in love with his job, this is relatable for the audience because it is a real problem for a lot of people.

The selection of this show is that they would have probably set the same scene again and again in order to get the best one for their audience to see, this scene would have been selected by the director of that episode. The mediation of this show is that some times they focus on one character is something really bad is happening in their life, this is shown when Dr. Spencer Reid is trying to find out about a murder he remembers from his childhood. He becomes aggressive towards his colleagues and even his mum and his father he hardly knows. The construction of this show is that the murders that take place on this show are so extreme and the audience knows this it is just the fact that it is entertaining to watch the FBI agents trying everything to track this murder before they kill again. The way the murder kills and what the say, how the agents find out things has all been arrange by the people behind the show just for the entertainment of the audience.

Representation work

Representation Work:

Class-Newspaper- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2419604/Prince-William-hires-old-nanny-Jessie-Webb-George.html

The class shown here is upper because it is saying about Prince William. It is an okay representation for him because he is showing that he cares by bringing in the woman who helped raise him, and he turned out alright. But then again he is still getting someone else to raise his child because he is too 'important' to do it himself.

Gender- TV show-

In this episode the character Carl is going to see Shirley and he is trying to be the hard man who has been in prison. This is a bad representation of the male gender because he is a horrible man who thinks that threatening a woman is acceptable.

Age- Films- Mean girls-

This is a bad representation of teenage girls, because Regina is rude to her mum and them they have this burn book where they write horrible things about the people they go to school with. There is always a group of girl who portray themselves like this but half the time they are never this bad. This sends out the wrong signal about teenage American girls.

Race- TV Show- Top Boy-

This is a bad representation of black British youth because he is being violent towards the young boy and then the teacher, he is using slang and swear words. He also wants the young boy to skip school to hang out with him.

Sexuality- Newspaper-
This is technically not good and not bad, this picture is merely showing his abs where as others show much more. This is to pleasure the female audience which is bad because it make these man just sex objects to them as women are to men, this is nice because they are human. On the other hand the people in the picture know what they are getting into and know what the pictures are being used for so if they don't mind them that is their decision.
